At Motiv8s, we assist youth and adults towards rising above society's negative influences to live productive lives. The basis of our program is an eight step life empowerment training series that teaches low income-high risk youth and young adults to positively confront the social and environmental pressures associated with living in economically deprived, gang infested neighborhoods. Our participants are: youth and young adults who are overcoming addiction and post incarceration and youth and young adults who have previously been convicted of crimes or who are under advisement through the Judicial system, When participants come to Motiv8s they are seeking an opportunity to function in society as productive citizens. Our services greatly impact the greater Richmond community and the Tri-city areas by directly working with the most challanged youth and young adults to assist them in becoming employable, socially responsible citizens.
The MOTIV8S design addresses the issues confronting at-risk youth and young adults. We provide positive strategies and alternatives that promote and encourage goal oriented behavior, healthy beliefs and clear standards. We also assist our participants in developing a realistic attitude regarding consequences for their personal actions.
Our working goals are:
I. To encourage and enhance self esteem and self confidence, enabling recovery from a lifestyle of crime and drugs.
II. To provide information and training for success in obtaining legitimate employment.
III. To encourage positive anger and conflict resolution.
IV. To educate parents in positive parenting techniques.
V. To assist participants in maximizing their inner potential through a variety of positive strategies.
VI. To bring information concerning substance abuse prevention to youth and adults in the general population.
VII. To build partnerships with community and government agencies working for related goals.
